Siddharth S

S Siddharth is a Ph.D. scholar working under the supervision of Prof.Sangeetha Menon. His research interests are in philosophy of mind and metaphysics.

Siddharth’s ongoing doctoral research is located at the intersection of philosophy of mind and metaphysics, and deals with the question: what is the place of the conscious mind in reality? While most traditional views in western philosophy have sought to either identify the mind with physical phenomena (such as brain processes) or posit it as a second kind of phenomena, his research focuses on a family of views referred to as Russellian Monism that seeks a middle-path between the two. Within this, his work focuses specifically on Russellian panpsychism and challenges facing the view.

Siddharth has published his research work in the Journal of the Indian Council for Philosophical Research and an edited volume titled Self, Culture and Consciousness published by Springer. He has also presented his research at conferences and summer schools organised by Sun Yat-Sen University (Zhuhai, China), Sri Mata Vaishno Devi University (Katra, India) and Central European University (Budapest, Hungary).

Before joining NIAS, Siddharth had finished his M.A in Education from Azim Premji University, Bangalore. Before his move into philosophy and education, Siddharth has completed his B.Tech in Mechanical Engineering from NIT, Surat and PGDM from IIM, Lucknow, and worked in a commercial bank for three years.
