Thesis Topic:
Theoretical and Experimental Investigations into Causality, its Measures, and Applications Testing of causality between two given systems is of enormous interest in a wide variety of disciplines. In neuroscience, causal interactions between different parts of a network are being used to understand functional circuits underlying perception, cognition and even consciousness. My research is focused on coming up with improved causality measures, understanding the philosophy behind the existing and proposed causal measures and developing a rigorous mathematical formalism behind how these measures work. Also, developing theory, models and experiments for testing ‘retrocausality’. This might be useful for understanding our rare conscious experiences where ‘causality’ does not hold in its conventional sense.
